Todays  article(below)  indicates why the Tea Party Patriots of West Oakland County supports state efforts to limit the power of public sector unions. Serious Solution to Balance Budget Requires Less Spending

During fiscal year 2010 the government spent around $3.6 trillion, or 25 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), while collecting $2.1 trillion in tax revenue, or 14.5 percent of GDP.  The resulting deficit was $1.5 trillion.  The total debt held by the public -- the sum of…

Decline is in the Mind.....Victor Hanson

Any of us in 2-3 minutes can see how it could all be reversed -- a full-fledged effort to develop all our energy resources, from nuclear to natural gas, radical cuts in public spending, closed borders, fiscal sanity and pay as you go legislation, a return to merit instead of situational pleading. Given our wealth and talent in four years we could balance the budget, slash energy imports and make schools work far better with fewer dollars.

  • I don't think these nice people realize what they look like to the world: teachers and doctors comitting fraud on camera, smugly implying,"We shouldn't have to pay 121/2 % of our health care premiums, you voters should pay for it all."I say bring in more cameras and keep protesting.Meanwhile, as…

Make Higher Student Achievement Chief Objective for Teachers

Research consistently demonstrates that there are very important differences among teachers, but teacher skills are not captured by the most commonly used measurements -- teacher qualifications, degrees, years of experience and the like, says Eric Hanushek, the Paul and Jean Hanna Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution.

If we can't…

Strategies for States to Fight EPA Regulation

While pending regulation of greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act has received the lion's share of the attention, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has also begun promulgating and will continue promulgating over the next several years a slew of overreaching and inefficient air and water rules that will dramatically increase energy costs, cause enormous negative impacts to jobs and the economy, irreparably damage the…

The Unseen Consequences of "Green Jobs"

In his State of the Union speech a couple of weeks ago, President Obama planned to "win the future" by, among many other things, having the federal government invest in clean energy technology.  But will investing in clean energy actually produce countless new jobs? asks Ronald Bailey, Reason's science correspondent.

A his new report, "Defining, Measuring, and Predicting Green Jobs," University of Texas economist Gürcan Gülen takes…

Latest Set Back: Judge Rules ObamaCare Unconstitutional

It's worth noting that Monday's ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Roger Vinson that the Democrats' health care overhaul is unconstitutional is only the latest setback for the badly flawed legislation inflicted on the nation last March, says Investor's Business Daily (IBD).

As one of the…

School Choice Makes Financial Sense

Empowering parents to choose the best school for their children -- whether public or private, regardless of ZIP code -- isn't just the right thing to do.  With states struggling to overcome yawning budget deficits, school choice makes good fiscal sense, says Ben Boychuk, managing editor of the Heartland Institute's School Reform…

Stop Federal Spending on Education

While Washington spends huge sums on things that are education-related, the riches produce almost nothing of educational value.  If anything, the feds keep stuffing donuts into an already obese system, says Neal McCluskey, associate director of the Cato Institute's Center for Educational Freedom.

  • In 1970…
